Staff Reports

Public Bike Share in Parks
The Board approved the Public Bike Share station network to integrate park destinations, subject to the Park Board General Manager approving all technical station details (precise location, installation and operation) on a site by site basis. City staff are working to launch this transportation initiative in 2013. The initial service area contains several recreational facilities and parks including Stanley Park that are destinations for residents and visitors.

Portuguese Joe Silvey Project (presentation only)
Staff presented a donation proposal with regards to a sculpture to be located at Brockton Point adjacent to the Totems in Stanley Park. The monument will honour Portuguese Joe Silvey, one of the early European settlers in Vancouver, and his Coast Salish wives, Khaltinaht and Kwatleematt to highlight the ancestral connection of Coast Salish and Portuguese communities in Vancouver.

Motions
Commissioner Barnes put forward a motion that bowling as a recreational activity be included as part of the 2013-2014 recreational review/analysis, and that the results of the 2013-2014 recreational service planning review/analysis be shared with Vancouver City Council for information only. The motion carried.

Commissioner Blyth put forward a motion that staff study and report to the Board on how our well our recreational system provides equal access for women; and that the Vancouver Park Board will work with the City of Vancouver, Woman's Advisory Committee, Vancouver Field Sport Federation, Vancouver Sport Network and all of our sports partners to look at ways to improve participation in sport for women in Vancouver and staff will to develop a plan on what we can achieve by 2015. The motion carried.

Park Board related items at Council this week include: 2012 Q3 Capital Budget Adjustments and Closeouts,and Sport Hosting Grants.

Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Public Bike Share in Parks and Motions re bowling and women in sport (see Committee highlights above).

Next Meetings
The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held at 7 pm on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 2099 Beach Avenue with next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.

There will be a Special Meeting of the Board at 7 pm on Thursday, December 13 at 2099 Beach Avenue.
