Chair's Report
The Chair reported on recent events – “Echoes” public art found a permanent home at Kits Beach and Commissioner Jasper’s son Jeevan was born April 10.

Biodiversity Strategy Update
Staff presented an information update on the progress of a new biodiversity strategy that will seek to enhance habitat in Vancouver parks by naturalizing forests, wetlands and streams, and shorelines.

Staff Reports

Brock House Society Extension
The Board extended the lease with Brock House Society for a term of 10 years from August 1, 2013, to July 31, 2023. The heritage facility has operated as a Senior’s Activity Centre for the last 35 years.

British Columbia Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund Contract Renewal
The agreement with the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund and CUPE Local 1004 for Bright Nights in Stanley Park was renewed for a five-year period effective July 1, 2013, with an option to extend the agreement for a further five years. The Board will remit a 13% share of the Bright Nights net admission revenue annually to the Burn Fund. The popular family event has been a regular part of the Christmas season since 1998 with more than $1.5 million raised for the Burn Fund.

Construction Contract Award – Kitsilano Beach Renovation
The Board entered into a fixed price contract with Cedarcrest Lands (BC) in the amount of $531,118 to be funded by the 2012 to 2014 Capital Plan for the Kitsilano Beach Tennis Courts Renovation project. Five of the 10 renovated courts will be built to international tournament standard for size and surface grade, the first in Vancouver.

Motion
Commissioner De Genova rose on a point of personal privilege and publically acknowledged the receipt of an email apology from Chair Blyth regarding the statements made on Twitter on March 13, 2013. Chair Blyth restated her apology and Commissioner De Genova withdrew her motion entitled “the Censure of Chair Blyth” because of concerns about staff hours and the cost of facilitators to pursue the matter.

Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Brock House Society Extension, British Columbia Fire Fighters Burn Fund Contract Renewal and Construction Contract Award – Kitsilano (see Committee highlights above).

Notice of Motion
Commissioner Loke put forward a notice of motion re: the Inclusivity and Gender Advisory Committee.

Commissioner De Genova put forward a notice of motion to expand farmers markets in Vancouver parks.

The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held at 7 pm on Monday, May13, 2013, at 2099 Beach Avenue with next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
