Park Board Committee Meeting

Chair’s Report
The Chair reported on recent events: Garden Day proclamation at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Beaver Creek enhancement funding announcement, Songs for Reconciliation at Trout Lake, and Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival.

Staff Reports:

Special Event Approvals 2014 – ClearlyContacts.ca Open and Pride Sunset Beach Festival & Market
The Board approved a request from Volleyball BC, organizers of the ClearlyContacts.ca Open (formerly the Vancouver Open) for a 350 person Public Special Occasion License in a licensed area at Kitsilano Beach from July 4 to 6, 2014. The event is the group’s flagship professional beach volleyball tournament. The Board also approved a request from the Vancouver Pride Society, organizers of the Pride Sunset Beach Festival & Market, to increase the capacity of the event’s licensed area on August 3, 2014 from 1,000 to 1,200 persons. The festival and market are part of the annual celebration of the LGTBQ community.

General Manager’s Report
Park Board related items at Council and Committee this week include reports on the film and TV industry inVancouver, the Sport Hosting Grant program, Metro Vancouver’s Experience the Fraser recreational trail project, and energy retrofit strategy for existing buildings.

Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Special Event Approvals 2014 – ClearlyContacts.ca Open and Pride Sunset Beach Festival & Market (see Highlights above).

Motions on Notice
Commissioner De Genova advised of a motion on notice regarding the Southeast Vancouver Seniors Centre estimated project timeline.

The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 2099 Beach Avenue with the next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
