Park Board Committee Meeting

Chair’s Report
The Chair reported on recent events: Ground-breaking ceremony for Portuguese Joe memorial in Stanley Park, Bloedel Conservatory roof replacement showcase, and Jericho Sailing Centre’s 40th anniversary.

Staff Report:
Construction Contract Award – Baseball Field Renovation at Hastings Community Park
The Board entered into a fixed price contract with Wilco Civil Ltd. in the amount of $603,071, to be funded by the 2012 – 2014 Capital Plan, for the baseball field renovation at Hastings Community Park. The field, built in 1952, will be upgraded in time for the Hastings Community Little League to host the 2016 National Little League Championships.

Hastings Community Little League
The Hastings Community Little League presented a cheque to the Park Board in the amount of $306,000 as a donation towards the new baseball field at Hastings Community Park. The support includes at $150,000 commitment from the Toronto Blue Jays through their Jays Care Field of Dreams grant program.

Regular Board Meeting

Park Board approved holding an In Camera meeting on July 21, 2014.

General Manager’s Report
Park Board related items at Council and Committee this week include a report reference on a plan to end homelessness, and reports on grants for Childcare Enhancement, Community Building, and Cultural Infrastructure, and the City’s Draft 2015-2018 Capital Plan.

Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Construction Contract Award – Baseball Field Renovation at Hastings Community Park and Hastings Community Little League Donation. (see Highlights above).

Motion on Notice
Commissioner De Genova put forward a motion:
A. That the Park Board direct staff to prepare and distribute an estimated project timeline for the Southeast Vancouver Seniors’ Centre in order to clarify the facts surrounding this project and provide firm, clear information for all involved.
B. That the Park Board direct staff to determine the exact nature and degree of the design work and costing information required by the Build Canada Fund and report back to the Board regarding the requirements at the next regular meeting of the Board.
The motion was referred to staff.

Notice of Motions
Commissioner De Genova advised of a motion on notice titled Vancouver Southeast Seniors Centre Advisory Committee.
Commissioner Coupar advised of a motion on notice regarding Love Locks.

Next Meeting
The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 2099 Beach Avenue with the next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
