The following information is intended to provide quick highlights of this scheduled Board meeting. STAFF REPORTS
Sunset Community Centre Contract Award
The Board approved the construction contract
award for the Sunset Community Centre to
Haebler Construction Ltd., in the amount
of up to $9.562 million. The existing centre,
built in 1950 and one of the City's oldest,
will be completely replaced and moved to
Main Street. Since the design was approved
a year ago, costs have increased significantly.
Since that time, staff and consultants
have looked for a solution that reduces
the construction costs and realizes a slightly
modified design. These include revisions
to the detailing and finishing of the project
and a small reduction in floor space. Even
with these changes, additional funding
needs to be found. Monies from a number
of sources will be used including a large
contribution from the Sunset Community
Association, government grant, and transfers
from other Park Board accounts. The new
facility, which is being built to LEED
Gold Standard, is scheduled to open in
April or May, 2007.
