Active Communities Vancouver
Update
The information report on Active Communities
was deferred to the December 10 meeting so
that the Board can receive and consider recommendations
of the Vancouver Active Communities Network
(VACNet). The program was launched to inspire
and equip city residents and employees to become
20% more active by 2010.
The Stanley Park 120th Anniversary
Celebration
To celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Stanley
Park in 2008, the Board approved mounting a
display of 30-36 interpretive panels throughout
the park, and commissioning the Vancouver Museum
to mount an historical exhibition (pending
confirmation of a donation to fund the exhibition).
The projects will both showcase the natural
and human history of the park. An educational/interpretive
legacy is part of the restoration process currently
underway.
Stanley Park Restoration Progress
Report - Donor Recognition asnd Stewardship
A draft progress report on the Stanley
Park restoration was approved to be finalized
and sent to approximately 7,000 public
and private donors who provided financial
support to the park's recovery.
Stanley Park Restoration - Progress Report
November 2007
The Board received a six month progress report
on the restoration of Stanley Park, outlining
work and spending to October 31. The report
references the significant actions taken
to-date against the plans approved in April.
Stanley Park Restoration - Contract Extensions
A number of forestry and consulting contracts
for restoration work were extended. The
work has been carried out to-date on a
time and materials basis to allow for more
project control while allowing for response
to environmental and safety challenges.
Hillcrest Curling Venue/Percy Norman Pool
Fall 2007 Update
The Board received a report on the progress
and financial status of the Olympic Curling
Venue and Percy Norman Aquatic Centre project.
Plans call for the curling venue to be complete
in December 2008, with the pool slated for
completion in June 2009. Additional funding
will likely be needed to realize the curling
venue; discussions are currently underway
between VANOC and the City on this potential
shortfall.
Trout Lake Ice Rink Award of Contract
Bird Construction Company was awarded the
$2.2 million contract for the first part
of reconstruction of Trout Lake Ice Rink,
including demolition, excavacation, site
servicing and related support work.
The Board put forward a Motion to request that staff research and develop a policy on no-net loss of green space that would be used to guide future decision-making; and that staff report back to the Board for further guidance by April 2008. The Motion was defeated.
