Meeting Agenda - January 28 , 2008

The Chair reported on the presentation of the Cultural Harmony Awards and ceremonial tree planting last week: the multicultural seniors' knitting group from Trout Lake Community Centre won in the organization category; and Active Communities Vancouver awards were presented to the three top Park Board recreation and arts & culture staff teams.

Park Board related items on Council agenda this week are a report on a new cultural plan for the City 2008 to 2018; consulting contract for development of Hastings Park master signage; restoration of the Salt Building in Southest False Creek; and northeast False Creek update.

On the last Committee agenda were election of Committee Vice Chair, World Championship Triathalon event, Cherry Blossom Festival, EcoDensity, Stanley Park Hollow Tree and the 2008 Operating Budget.

Athletic Business Magazine awarded architects Hughes, Condon and Marler one of their 2007 Facilities of Merit Award for Killarney Leisure Pool. The award, in its 27th year, recognizes state-of-the-art recreation facilities for their function, design, integration and value for money.

Queen Elizabeth Park - Observation Tower Public Process
The Board did not endorse the concept of a privately developed and operated observation tower in Queen Elizabeth Park; and requested that staff report back by Spring 2008 on various tree management options with the goal of restoring views from QE Park Plaza.

The Board put forward a Motion that staff report back by Spring 2008 with a proposal for a full Park Board employee engagement survey to be conducted in 2008 including a budget, survey timeline and follow-up actions. The Motion carried.

The next regular Park Board meeting will be held at 7 pm on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 2099 Beach Avenue.
