CHAIR'S REPORT
The Chair reported on the Federal Government funding announcement and ground breaking ceremony at Fraserview Park, official opening of the new Kensington skateboard park, Walk with the Dragon in Stanley Park, opening of the accessible community gardens at Cottonwood and Strathcona and opening of the new Creekside Community Recreation Centre.
COMMITTEE REPORT
The Planning and Environment Committee agenda included: Community Centre renewal priorities and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden update.
GENERAL MANAGER'S REPORT
Park Board related items on City Council agenda this week: Trout Lake Community Centre renewal contract and Collingwood Neigborhood House Society gym funding 2010.
STAFF REPORTS
Trout Lake Community Centre Award of Contract - Work Package #2
The Board awarded a $14.1 million contract to Bird Construction Company for the balance of work on the new Trout Lake Community Centre. Approval of this stage, which includes 2,000 sq. ft. of expansion space, brings the total value of this contract to $15.3 million.
Park Board Signing Authority
The Board approved changes to the signing authority for Park Board bank accounts to reflect changes in personnel.
Nelson Park - West End Dog Show Vending Request
The Board granted permission for vendors to be part of the annual West End Dog Show at Nelson Park August 22. The sponsor organizations will sell goods and services related to dogs and pet ownership.
Grandview Park Upgrade - Construction Contract Award
CAP Ventures Ltd was awarded a $1.13 million construction contract for upgrades to Grandview Park. Funds are available for this project from the Park Board's 2009 - 11 Capital Plan and the Federal Government's RInC grant program.
Trillium Fields: Supply and Installation of Synthetic Turf - Contract Award
The Board approved a contract in the amount of $621,720 with Astroturf West Distributors Ltd. for the supply and installation of synthetic turf at the Trillium park site's 2 fields. Construction is being funded with Capital funds and a Federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund towards lighting for the fields. Project completion is set for mid October.
MOTION
The Board put forward a motion that a plebiscite be held during the 2011 Vancouver civic election asking the public if they favour of ending the containment of cetaceans in Vancouver parks, including the phase out of existing cetacean exhibits which are located on land leased by the Park Board. The motion failed.
