Park Board Committee Meeting
Chair's Report
The Chair reported on recent events – Remembrance Day in parks, Diwali celebrations, Cultural Harmony Awards, Kerrisdale Community Centre mural, Partners’ Tour, Tree Plantings at Langara Golf Course and in Stanley Park, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, openings for Bright Nights in Stanley Park and Jewel Box of Lights at Bloedel Conservatory and signage in Guelph Park. She also reported on highlights of the Park Board’s strategic accomplishments in 2012.
Staff Reports
Shannon Mews Park Concept Plan
The Board approved the proposed concept plan for the Shannon Mew public park. Plans for the 4 hectare Kerrisdale green space will embrace the heritage Italianate landscape style with construction of the first phase estimated to begin in 2014.

Motions
Commissioner Sharma put forward a Motion that staff direct resources towards establishing the portfolio for a “Sustainability Officer” in the Park Board with the responsibility of overseeing and managing our efforts to become "Leaders in Greening"; and that staff establish a “Leaders in Greening” Task Force comprised of community experts, staff and Commissioners to make policy recommendations and identify opportunities that would:
a. Develop sustainability strategy and actions for the Park Board's "Leaders in Greening" objective;
b. Identify performance metrics that would help to measure our achievement of these actions; and
c. Engage our partners, volunteers and community groups to work together in greening or educational projects that work to achieve our healthy ecosystem goals.
The Motion carried.
Regular Board Meeting
Election of Park Board Chair and Vice Chair
Commissioner Blyth was re-elected Chair of the Park Board, and Commissioner Jasper was re-elected Vice Chair of the Park Board.
Election of Committee Chair and Vice Chair
Commissioner Sharma was re-elected Chair of Committee, and Commissioner Loke was re-elected Vice Chair of Committee.
General Manager’s Report
Park Board related item at Council this week include: 2013 Operating and Capital Budgets. He also shared news of recent industry recognition for Park Board facilities at the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver’s 2012 Commercial Night: for Hillcrest Centre, VanDusen Garden Visitor Centre, Trout Lake Community Centre and Cactus Club English Bay; and a Business in Vancouver employer of choice award to restauranteur Daniel Hospitality Group.

The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Shannon Mews Park Concept Plan, 2013 Committee/Board Meeting Dates and Motions re Leaders in Greening and Community Centre Hours (see Committee highlights above).
