Chair's Report
The Chair reported on recent events: Theatre under the Stars opening, Fuchsia and Begonia Show at VanDusen, Monument Sopa Sur opening, Pride Parade 2013, CBC Live from Stanley Park, Celebrate! Stanley Park festival, Vancouver Canadians game, Hastings Community Centre BBQ, Luxury and Supercar Weekend at VanDusen, SPES Fall Family Challenge, Annual Battle of Britain Commemoration and Walk for Reconciliation.
Presentation
Staff presented an overview of Celebrate! Stanley Park, the two-day community event held in late August to mark the park’s 125th anniversary.
Community Garden Licence Agreements
Effective September 24, 2013 the Park Board granted a new Community Garden License Agreement for a term of five years to Urban Diggers Society for Brewery Creek and Mount Pleasant Community Gardens, False Creek South Neighbourhood Association for Charleson Community Garden, Marpole Oakridge Community Association for Cambie Park Community Garden, Village Vancouver Transition Society for Woodland Community Garden, Adanac Park Community Garden Society for Adanac Community Garden, and Pandora Park Community Garden Society for Pandora Park Community Garden. Effective September 24, 2013 the Park Board approved the renewal of the Community Garden License Agreement (as revised) for a term of five years for Urban Diggers Society for Elizabeth Rogers, China Creek, Robson Park, Sahalli,and Teaswamp Community Gardens, Kitsilano Community Garden Association for Kitsilano Community Garden, McSpadden Agricultural Project Society for McSpadden Park Community Garden, Environmental Youth Alliance for Mean of Production Garden at China Creek Park North, Nelson Park Community Garden Society for Nelson Park Community Garden, and Kiwassa Neighbourhood House for the Wall Street Community Garden.
New Park at 6th and Fir Street
The Board approved the concept plan for the proposed new park design concept at the junction of 6th Avenue and First Street. The 0.13 hectare site will eventually be incorporated into a larger park in the Burrard Slopes neighbourhood.
Renfrew Ravine and Renfrew Community Park Master Plan
The Board approved the long range master plan to rehabilitate two adjacent east side parks: Renfew Ravine Park and Renfrew Community Park. The plan will consider potential park and recreational elements as well as ecological functions of the parks, ravine and Still Creek.
Motion
Commissioner De Genova put forward a motion that the Board direct staff to research possible locations that may be suitable for fishing in Vancouver, and that the Park Board Chair write a letter to the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) Board asking for fishing at Hastings Park to stop immediately. The Motion was referred to staff.
Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Community Garden License Agreements, New Park at 6th and Fir Street, and Renfrew Ravine and Renfrew Community Park Master Plan (see Committee highlights above).
General Manager’s Report
Park Board related items at Council and Committee this week include: updates on four Community Plans and their processes: Downtown Eastside, Grandview Woodland, Marpole and West End; and Second Quarter Capital Budget Adjustments and Closeouts.

Commissioner De Genova put forward a notice of motion re: Funding solutions to assist in securing funds to complete Killarney Seniors Centres
Commissioner Blyth put forward a notice of motion re: community book exchange.
Next Meeting
The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held at 7 pm on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 2099 Beach Avenue with next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
