Committee Meeting

Chair's Report
The Chair reported on recent events: Remembrance Day ceremonies in Vancouver parks, Get to Know Contest, GEN7 Fundraiser, and Hillcrest/Riley Park Master Plan Open House.

Staff Reports

Green Operations Plan – Update
Staff presented an information update on the new Green Operations Plan that identifies opportunities to reduce carbon, reduce waste and promote healthy ecosystems in the Park Board’s own operations.

Environmental Education and Stewardship Task Force
The Board approved the Terms of Reference for the Environmental Education and Stewardship Task Force, and appointed Commissioners Blyth and Sharma to co-chair the new group. The Task Force will bring expertise from community partners together to advise Park Board on how to better engage communities on environmental stewardship and education opportunities in parks and community centres. The group will start work in November 2013 and aim to wrap up an action plan by July 2014.

General Manager’s Report
Park Board related item at Council’s Standing Committee this week included: West End Community Plan, and report on Strategic Options for Improving Litter Management.

Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the report of the Committee: Green Operations Plan, and Environmental Education and Stewardship Task Force (see Highlights above).

Next Meeting
The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held at 7 pm on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 2099 Beach Avenue with next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
