Staff Reports:
A Public Outdoor Space to Commemorate Jim Green
The Board approved the development of a public sector outdoor space to commemorate Jim Green in the Trillium North park site.The space will recognize and tell the story of Mr. Green’s significant contributions to the City as elected official, and advocate for the Downtown Eastside, democracy and the arts.
Special Event Approval – Celebration of Light 2014
The Board granted permission for a 1,200 person Public Occasion License in the reserved seating area of the Celebration of Light event on July 26, July 30 and August 2, 2014, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. In addition to the new licensed area, the 2014 edition of the popular fireworks show will feature a number of new activations.
Non-Motorized Boating Centre at Creekside Community Recreation Centre
The Board endorsed the concept for improvements to the paddling centre in False Creek next to Creekside Community Recreation Centre. The new non-motorized boating facility will help meet the strong demand for paddling and rowing programs in the city.

General Manager’s Report
Park Board related items at Council and Committee this week include two Proclamations: Vancouver Basketball Champions Day, and Child Care and Early Learning Month; Update on National Energy Board Hearings for Kinder Morgan Expansion and motion re National Energy Board Hearings; Update on Public Engagement re Healthy City Strategy; and Community and Neighbourhood Arts Development Grants Allocations.
Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: A Public Outdoor Space to Commemorate Jim Green, Special Event Approval – Celebration of Light 2014, and Non-Motorized Boating Centre at Creekside Community Recreation Centre (see Highlights above).
Motions on Notice
Commissioner Blyth put forward a motion that the Park Board work with local Marinas, Tourism Vancouver, the Georgia Straight Alliance, the Squamish Streamkeepers Society, and Environmental Defence to request a feasibility study to identify potential candidates for marinas and beaches in Vancouver. The motion carried.
Commissioner De Genova put forward a motion that the Park Board direct staff provide an update within 30 days on the Southeast Seniors Centre project, including:
a) Funding and estimated total cost;
b) Consultation plan on the design of the facility; and
c) Construction project timeline.
The motion failed.
Commissioner Blyth put forward a motion re request for leave of absence for the June Board meetings. The motion carried.

Commissioner Loke put forward a notice of motion re Bingham Green.

The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 2099 Beach Avenue with the next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
