Park Board Committee Meeting

Chair’s Report
The Chair reported on the Komagata Maru Centennial event held on May 23, 2014 at the Komagata Maru monument in Harbour Green Park.

Staff Reports:
Hillcrest and Riley Parks – Master Plan

The Board approved the Master Plan for Hillcrest and Riley Parks. The plan has created opportunities to green and address current issues such as enhanced sports fields, pedestrian and cycling improvements, traffic and parking improvements, and food assets, in these two important parks.

Update: Introduction of OneCard and Enhanced Access to Recreation
The Board received an information update on the significant impact of OneCard, a joint initiative of the Park Board and participating Community Centre Associations, on increasing access to the network of Recreation pools, rinks, fitness centres and Community Centres since its launch last Summer.

Regular Board Meeting

In Camera
Park Board approved holding an In Camera meeting on June 9, 2014.

General Manager’s Report
The green space at 18th and Main Street won the 2014 Regional Honour Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects. Park Board related items at Council and Committee this week include Capital Budget Closeouts. The Park Board’s Access & Volunteer Services Coordinator has been hired.

Report of the Park Board Committee
The Board approved the recommendations of Committee: Hillcrest and Riley Parks – Master Plan (see Highlights above).

Motions on Notice
Commissioner Loke put forward a motion that the Board approve a motion to name the green space between Barclay Manor and Roedde House in Barclay Heritage Square “Bingham Green” in honour of the late Janet Bingham (1928 – 2013), and to work with the Roedde House Museum to commission a plaque in honour of Janet Bingham and her work establishing Barclay Heritage Square and Roedde House. The motion was referred to staff for more information.

Notice of Motions
Commissioner De Genova put forward a notice of motion re Southeast Seniors Centre Project Cost, Consultation & Design Timeline.
Commissioner Blyth put forward a notice of motion re Bud Osborne.

Next Meeting
The next Park Board Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2099 Beach Avenue with the next Regular Park Board Meeting held immediately following the Committee Meeting that evening.
